Emotional Freedom Technique

From stress to strength.

Understanding EFT

Unlock calm- A guide to freedom

Emotional Freedom Technique, commonly known as tapping, is a therapeutic, gentle practice that blends modern psychology with the principles of ancient Chinese medicine. It involves lightly tapping on specific meridian points on the face and body while focusing on a thought, memory, or emotion. This simple act can shift the body’s stress response, calm the nervous system, and allow unresolved emotions to release. EFT is a powerful tool for emotional healing, trauma relief, and everyday self-care.

EFT was developed in the 1990s by Gary Craig, a Stanford-trained engineer with a background in personal development and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). Inspired by the work of psychologist Dr. Roger Callahan, who pioneered Thought Field Therapy (TFT), Craig simplified the technique into a more accessible, user-friendly form. Unlike TFT, which required tapping different sequences for different issues, Craig designed EFT to use a standard tapping sequence for all concerns—making it easy for anyone to learn and practice.

Since then, EFT has spread worldwide and gained increasing scientific recognition as a form of energy psychology. Today, it is used in clinical settings, coaching, trauma therapy, and self-care practices.

Therapeutic Approach and Offerings

A space to find the balance within.

EFT operates at the intersection of psychology, physiology, and energy medicine. As an advanced practitioner of EFT, I bring into my sessions this gentle practice for emotional healing and inner peace. Each session follows a set pattern and protocol. This is what happens during a tapping session.

1. Focus on the issue –Attention is brought to an emotion, memory, belief, or physical symptom that feels charged. Naming or acknowledging the problem signals the brain where energy is “stuck.”

2. Tapping meridian points – We start tapping. By rhythmically tapping on specific acupressure points (often on the face, chest, and hands), the body’s meridian system is stimulated—like acupuncture but without needles.

3. Calming the nervous system – Research shows tapping reduces activity in the amygdala (the brain’s alarm system) and lowers cortisol levels. This helps the body move out of fight-or-flight and into a state of safety and regulation.

4. Rewiring the brain – While the nervous system is calm, the brain can reprocess old experiences without overwhelm. Emotional intensity decreases, and the memory or belief loses its charge. Over time, this rewiring allows for healthier responses, greater resilience, and freedom from repeating old patterns.

This entire process reduces the emotional “charge” connected to memories, beliefs, or stress triggers—allowing the nervous system to reset and new perspectives to emerge. Over time, EFT helps rewire your emotional responses, offering both immediate relief and long-term resilience.

Why EFT is Effective

Release what weighs you down.

Scientific basis: Studies show EFT can reduce anxiety, depression, PTSD symptoms, and even physical pain. It reduces cortisol (the body’s primary stress hormone), calms the amygdala (the brain’s fear centre), and helps  to rewire the brain’s stress responses.

• Somatic integration: By engaging the body directly, EFT helps release emotions that talking alone cannot resolve.

• Accessible and empowering: Once learned, EFT becomes a self-care tool you can use anytime to manage stress and shift emotional states.

• Holistic: It addresses the mental, emotional, physical, and energetic dimensions of healing.

In essence, EFT is more than a technique—it’s a bridge between science and spirit, helping people release what no longer serves them and return to a state of balance and freedom.

As an advanced EFT practitioner, I bring into my practice a sense of honouring the body and the mind and the emotional and spiritual aspects of healing. It is not about suppressing feelings, but gently meeting them, allowing the body and nervous system to return to a state of safety and freedom.

Today, EFT is practiced worldwide—in therapy rooms, coaching sessions, hospitals, schools, and homes—empowering people to heal themselves anywhere, anytime.
